High Plains Youth Kayak Fishing Series

Rules and Regulations

All Nebraska rules and regulations relating to boating, fishing, lakes and parks will be enforced.  This includes PFD regulations, fishing licenses and operating your vessel.  Members are encouraged to participate and complete a Boater Education Class offered by Nebraska Game and Parks. Please visit Nebraska Game and Parks website for more information.

A PFD MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES!  Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification.

Age Groups

There are two age groups.  15 and under, 16-18.  With birthdate not before October 2nd to qualify for age group.

Adult Help

As the goal of the HPYKFS is to teach kids about kayak fishing, other kayakers are allowed and encouraged to help the kids in terms of teaching them the best ways to catch bass. They can help in any way except actual casting, setting the hook or reeling in the fish.  Lending kids different lures is also acceptable.

Tournament Schedule

The series goal is to schedule and complete 6 tournaments per year. This can be adjusted from year to year depending on interest.  A state tournament will also be scheduled among these dates.   It will be held in conjunction with an existing date.

Tournament Scoring Rules

All anglers must provide their own electronic photo device that will take the picture of caught fish.  Fish will be measured and photographed on an acceptable board and then immediately released at kayak.  Points will be awarded for the day on total inches of 5 fish.  There is no minimum length.   Tie breaker will be the longest of the five fish turned in with virtual stringer.   Season points will be awarded as follows….1st Place = 100, 2nd Place = 90,  3rd Place =80 and so on.  11th place will awarded 9 points to 20th place which will be worth 1 point.  25 Participation points will be awarded to total score for each tournament entered. These points will be counted whether their tournament score is dropped or not. These points will give an incentive for the anglers to attend each event.

Trophies or plaques will be awarded at each tournament.  Tournament points will be added up to determine the series winner for the year.  Each angler will drop their lowest tournament score if they fished all six tournaments in the series.  If an angler can’t attend one event, they can use that tournament as their “dropped” score.

To determine end of the year series winner when a tie occurs, the following will be used:

1st-Total fish points for the year, then

2nd-Biggest fish, then

3rd-Number of tournaments finished, then

4th-Coin toss to determine the winner.

State Tournament

The state tournament will be a part of the series.  On that day awards will provided once again for 1st, 2nd, and third but will be awarded as the State Champion.  Series points will count as normal.

*Rules are subject to change.
