Fishing Reports for July 2009
Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Fished at Rock Creek again this morning starting at 5:15 AM. Calm conditions and cool. Turkeys gobbling and fog coming off of water that is really becoming much clearer. Trout feeding on surface. Focused on Largemouth again this morning. Used a Wacky Rig with weedless hair hint. Caught 15 of the bass. Several in the 14-17 inch range and they were fighters! Only 3 under 14 inches. Caught them around rocks and shady spots.
Temps were in the 60's to 70+ range while fishing with a high today of 93. Blue skies!

Fished at an area sand pit with CJ after supper for a couple hours.  Temp in high 80's.  Slight breeze out of the east.  First cast out of the kayak produced a huge 20 inch Largemouth on a Wacky Worm.  Caught 11 Largemouth Bass and 4 Bluegill.  CJ got a nice 7 1/2 inch Bluegill and many others.  He also landed a 14 and 12 inch Largemouth.  I went topwater after the sun went down and landed a few bass. Lost two that were huge!  Great night to fish from the kayak!

We went out early this morning under cloudy skies and an occasional light rain. The bite was strong right away but CJ was not really catching anything with size. I got quite a few 9 inch Bluegill right away. Then "BAM" he catches two over 10 inches within minutes of each other! He also caught a 16 inch Largemouth on his ultralite rig. Then he caught two Largemouth at 12 inches on the same line! Overall I caught 17 Bluegill, 8 Largemouth Bass, 3 Green Sunfish, and 1 12.5 inch Crappie.

CJ and I traveled to a local Sand pit for the evening and caught numerous Bluegills over 9 inches long.  I got 4 that were 9.5.  We were using small jigs.  I caught 8 Bluegill, 5 Largemouth Bass, and 1 large Crappie.  CJ landed quite a few bass and Bluegill.

Traveled to Swanson with CJ this morning.  Very nice!  South breeze to no breeze.   I got a Largemouth Bass, 2 Drum, and 1 small Crappie.  CJ got a nice Largemouth Bass.  We were using spoons, Lytle's secret lure, and a jerk bait.

Fished a local Sand Pit in the afternoon which produced 8 Largemouth Bass and 7 Bluegill.  The Bluegill were all over 8 inches long with one right at 10 inches and a MA.   I was using small twister tail jigs on a 1/64 oz head.  It was very hot in the 90's.

Then I traveled to Swanson after supper for some sunset fishing.  Had two nice blowups using a topwater shad lure.  Then I got a nice Drum along the dam using a spoon.  Not much other action at all.  Slight SE breeze.  Very nice out!

Fished at a pond with our friend Gabe.  Gabe got a nice MA Bluegill and CJ got a nice MA Hybrid Bluegill/Green Sunfish.  CJ and I both caught a beautiful Orange Spotted Sunfish.  I caught 3 Bluegill right at 9.5 inches.  We caught more than 75 fish today.  It was very humid and windy but we were protected by the catails.  We used small jigs.

Caught 12 Largemouth Bass and 5 Bluegill this morning. One Bluegill was 9.5. I am trying to get a 10 incher this week for the catch and continue contest!

Bite was extremely slow! Could be the cold front that went through.

Went out to catch that elusive 10 inch Bluegill this evening!  Got a 10.5 incher in the first 10 minutes!  Got a 9, then a 9.25 and whamo!  This hog hit and I barely got it in with my ultralite combo.

Traveled to Enders for some midday fishing.  Got a nice Walleye on a Shad Rap.  Tried to get to the schools of White bass but they would not stay up very long.  Windy from south with storms building.  Forced off by Lightning when two storms came roaring through the area.  Looks like the White Bass are making a run at Enders right now.

Fished at Swanson and a small sandpit both days.  Swanson was pretty slow probably due to the passing storms.  Caught 2 Drum, 1 Small Channel Cat, and 3 White Bass.  The wipers went nuts for a few minutes right next to me but I was determined to get a cat.  A friend nearby did get a nice sized Wiper over 20".   Sunday afternoon was super slow.  Nothing!  A storm was building right above and Lightning finally forced me off the lake.  Total at the Sandpit was 5 Largemouth and 10 Bluegill in the few minutes I spent there.  Got on bass that was 15 inches.

Since we are in Lincoln for several days I will fish various lakes in the area.  Fished Wagon Train for a couple hours earlier this evening.  White Bass were surfacing just before sunset chasing shad.  Lot's of Largemouth on the edges as well chasing shad.  Did manage to get a couple small wipers.  Calm conditions and temps in the low 80's.  Pretty nice out!
