Fishing Reports for April 2006

April 2006

Saturday, April 1, 2006
Fished at Rock Creek.  Beautiful day.  It was around 70 degrees with slight breeze from south to glassy water by 4:30 PM.   Caught 21 Largemouth Bass, 2 Rock Bass, 2 Rainbow Trout, and a near State Record Longnose Sucker about 16" long.  The State Record is 18".    The Bass were caught mostly with a Rapala X-Rap and Spinner Baits.  Same with the Rock Bass and Trout using a Yellow Jig spinner bait and Colorado blade.  Three of the Bass were 14" and very healthy.  Most of the Bass were in the 11-12 inch range.  Saw quite a bit of wildlife, muskrats, Turtles, etc.  There were two turtles that had a bluegill and were eating it.  That was pretty cool to watch.  The water was about 4-5 clarity.  Overcast day most of the day.

Fished in afternoon after church and dinner.  Took a friend along.  Wind out of NW at 55 -60 mph.  A bit breezy!  Very limited fishing action.  Caught 2 Rock Bass using a yellow spinner bait.  We spent most of our time getting into a good spot so we didn't end up on the south end of the lake.  Typical March/April weather.

Fished Rock Creek in morning.  Very nice morning, wind from south at about 9:00 am.  Switched to North at 11:30 am at 35-45 MPH.  Fishing was very good before that.  Left at 11:50 am.   Caught 100 fish and all released today.  Mostly Crappie around 75 of them.  Caught 4 Rainbow, 5 Perch, 6 Largemouth, and 10 Bluegill/Red Ear.   Most of fish smaller size.  Crappie around 5-6 inches.  Used a couple very small jigs.  Black Head about 1/64 oz.  My daughter paddled around with me.  Found a Rainbow trout attached to a bobber and released it.  Very strange.
